FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS CERVICAL DYSTONIA?
Cervical dystonia produces excessive muscle contractions in the neck. These muscle contractions cause involuntary movements and awkward positions of the head, neck, and sometimes shoulders.
Cervical dystonia may cause the:
• Neck to twist or tilt to the side
• Head to tip forward or back
• Shoulder to elevate toward the ear
• Neck to shift away from the midline of the body
Cervical dystonia is among the most common form of dystonia.
Cervical dystonia is sometimes referred to as spasmodic torticollis.
WHAT IS BLEPHAROSPASM AND HEMIFACIAL SPASM?
Blepharospasm causes involuntary muscle contractions in the eyelid and brow muscles. The repetitive muscle contractions may be subtle and result in mild blinking, or more robust and cause sustained, forced closure of the eyes.
Blepharospasm may occur in association with dystonia of the face with twitching or forced movements of the mouth and lips. If this occurs the combined condition is known as hemifacial spasms.
WHAT IS INTERVENTIONAL PAIN MANAGEMENT?
Interventional Pain Management can be a useful alternative for patients who have exhausted other treatment methods without success and may be the solution chronic pain sufferers need.
The goals of interventional pain management are to relieve, reduce, or manage pain and improve a patient's overall quality of life through minimally invasive techniques. These are specifically designed to diagnose and treat painful conditions. It can help patients return to their everyday activities quickly and minimize medication use.
